FIMMA, more than 50 years of history in the pursuit of the respect of employees and the environment
Fimma S.p.A. has always been sensitive to the working environment, intended as the wellbeing of employees and the environment surrounding them. This philosophy was embodied by the founder, engineer Guido Raccosta, and carried out by the two subsequent generations represented by Gaetano and Andrea.
Fimma was one of the first companies interested in obtaining the ISO 9001 quality certificate and in meeting the Oeko Tex standard. Uniting the principles not only in words, it subsequently obtained the REACH registration, in addition to the ISO 14001 certificate on environmental management, for the continuous improvement of its environmental impact.
For Fimma, environmental awareness goes hand in hand with the recognition of social issues, the OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series), which focuses on controlling risks in the workplace from the worker’s point of view, Integrated Environmental Authorisation, Welfare Italian PMI 2016.
Fimma believes that the improvement process must not stop, but that the bar should be raised each time. Thus, by sharing the environmental sustainability project launched by Greenpeace with ZDHC, it decided to convert the entire production of brass raw materials with a maximum lead content of 90PPM (legal limit) to 40PPM, since lead is a potentially harmful substance to man and is included in the specific list. This major improvement involves the entire range of products offered by both divisions: Fimma Division Industry and Sincro Division Couture.
But Fimma’s research is going even further. In fact, it is currently developing new articles in stainless steel, chosen for its intrinsic properties. In addition to products in stainless steel made with traditional drawing methods, the Ecofashion project also requires that the articles meet the following requirements:
• Zero Lead: steel, as a raw material, does not yield Nickel and does not require a galvanic finish to protect it from corrosion.
• Zero Waste: using new innovative production techniques.
• Zero toxic exposure: innovative mechanical buffing techniques to reduce the risk of exposure of the manual work.
• Zero Impact: alternative vacuum “galvanic” finishes without exposure and with less use of water.
Among other things, Fimma’s galvanic process – managed by Italfinish, the Galvanic Division – is also under constant improvement, thanks to a well-equipped laboratory able to reduce the use of agents harmful to the environment.
