Just over three years have passed since Michele Chiocciolini made his debut in the world of accessories that range from clutch bags for men – which soon became unisex – to the applauded artisanal qualities of their ‘Made in Florence’ bags with an unusual design
The postcards of the past are the new theme of the SS17 collection, designed by brother and sister duo, Michele and Francesca. This season the new collection sees the use of almost primary coloured leathers and Michele’s typical graphic accents, in a pop key, which tell the tale of some of the fondest places in his memory: Castagno d’Andrea, a small hamlet in the Florentine mountains where their family comes from; Florence, where Michele and Francesca live and work, and Marciana Marina on the Island of Elba, which has always been the place of their seaside holidays.
The design, research, model-making and chromatic appearance are the expression of an evocative and emotional process that tells a story using simple forms, like a fish, dog, church, cloud and tower.
In the Florentine designers’ range, the postcards of days gone by transform the exterior of the bags: a clutch features a mountain landscape, a cloudy sky or the silhouette of a dome. Chiocciolini have decided to repay this intense source of inspiration by giving something back: they reopened Arduina’s (their great-grandmother), haberdashery shop in Castagno D’Andrea; they created an exhibition space in a former carriage-repair shop in the Sant’Ambrogio district of Florence, and on the island of Elba they opened a bazaar in what was once a fisherman’s home.
